Writing Workshop with Molly Twomey

Molly Twomey grew up in Lismore, County Waterford, and graduated in 2019 with an MA in Creative Writing from University College Cork. Her work has appeared in New England Review, Poetry Review, Poetry Ireland Review, Banshee, The Irish Times, Mslexia, The Stinging Fly and elsewhere. Her first collection, Raised Among Vultures, was published in 2022 by The Gallery Press. It won the Southword Debut Collection Poetry Award, was shortlisted for the Seamus Heaney Poetry Prize for Best First Collection, and the Farmgate National Poetry Award. She runs an online international poetry event, Just to Say, sponsored by Jacar Press. In 2021, she was chosen for Poetry Ireland’s Introductions series and awarded an Arts Council Literature Bursary.

In her poem, 'They Are Building a Hospital,’ Maya C. Popa writes ‘so much of gladness / was thoughtlessness.’ In this three-hour generative workshop, participants will become miners digging for gold in the everyday details we so often ignore. Using visualisation and the act of remembering, we will write poems based on our daily lives, the objects and communities around us that nourish and sometimes frustrate us. We will also explore contemporary poetry that encourages us to move away from abstract and overused language into the specific and unique. Each participant will leave feeling refreshed and more aware of the vibrancy in their own lived experiences and with new drafts of poems to expand and refine.

€40 per participant. Click HERE to book your place.
